Medium-duties had their own grille and fender styling, and incorporated some revised wheelbase lengths for 1973. In 1975 the company made a black and gold truck called the Gentleman Jim, though the difference wasn't much more than a paint job. That same year the Beau James model debuted, packing some more serious equipment. Ford refined the chassis in 1981, and as a result, the Bronco lost its durable Dana 44 solid front axle in favor of a new Twin-Traction Beam setup that was less capable off-road. In fact, these trucks were built by Vidal Sohne in Hamburg, Germany, from 1949 to1951. He is credited with being the first automotive designer to integrate more uniform, enclosed fenders, and for being the first to move the radiator cap under the hood. Operating only on the rear wheels, it was made available the pickups and Travelalls in late 1971. The Gladiator was a much more modern full-size pickup than Jeep's earlier workhorses. This model finally had the muscle to match its brawny appearance. The underwent parallel changes to the Light Line trucks. Pickup trucks are America's workhorses. Production ended without replacement in late April 1975, as a hard-pressed International chose to focus on the and on heavier machinery. This forced a complete redesign to the Tempo, which now had to run an Austin engine and required many design changes. The Highboy is one of the toughest-looking Ford trucks of all time. The standard transmission was a three-speed manual with a column shift, but there were also four- and five-speed manuals and a three-speed automatics, with floor-mounted shifters optional.
