This has been broken for several weeks now. It is a severe safety factor. The second cause is due to surface insulation resistance failure on the board. I've also found a few for sale thru ebay. What if I replaced a motor and that gauge still doesn't work? But before we dropped the dough, we wanted to find out if there was a better way.

This is worse than me texting while driving as I am always having to pace my speed with over vehicles or trying to mentally gauge my actual speed. I made a big mistake by selling my 2000 Dodge Ram which I had for over ten years and never had any problems whatsoever. I then asked what the approximate cost of the part was and was told to contact my dealer get the diags and an estimate call them back and they might offer finical assistance. They would cover parts and labor for mileage of 80,000 and below. My truck has 38,720 miles on it currently. Very unsafe, chevy should recall the dash cluster, I mean come on. I have been driving my truck just guessing my speed and so far I haven't had any tickets.
It does 60 mph standing still. Then stay stayed at 110 miles and hour while driving at any speed. I've had the same issue at least 3 times now. Still no recall on our truck. The only remedy has been to turn my vehicle off and back on, where as my speedometer goes down at five mile per hour increments until back at zero. Gm apparently knows of the problem but no recall has been issued. I asked about the cost of the diagnostic fee and was told its up to each dealership to determine their own cost.
Upon driving thevehicle for three months, my speedometer started sticking intermittently, but would reset. Spoke to autry morlan dealership several times. The failure speedometer was 63,000 just 2,000 out of warranty. The failure mileage was 102,400 and current mileage was 106,000. I have 73,000 miles on it and have never driven so fast in my life. This dealership has closed and out of business. When the contact started the vehicle he noticed that the speedometer increased to 120 mph and would not move regardless of the speed that he was driving.
Per a lot of other similar reports, this appears to be a defect with the vehicle and should not be at my expense. Once the joint or component has failed power to the digital displays is lost causing a dead display or power is reduced causing a dim display. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 in mint condition, believe it or not I have only 7 or 8,000 miles on it. Well now it's just stuck at 0 and doesn't move at all. However, after searching the internet to fix myself, I discovered that many people have experienced the same problem and there is a lawsuit pending because of this problem. In March of this year I was traveling in oklahoma during a sudden snow storm in which traffic was traveling at an estimated 20-30 miles per hour.
We took it to the chevy dealer and they said it was a problem with the cluster and they ordered the part. I was told this is a stepping motor but hard to change and expensive to change. The vehicle has not been repaired. And finally there will be 1 or 2 wire harness plugs in the back that need to be simply unplugged. Probably what happened is the circuit board got too hot during the old solder removal causing damage to the board.
I don't feel I should have to pay for yet another thing to break on this vehicle hub assembly twice, actuator broke 3 times before the dealership would actually listen to us and fix it correctly. Sometimes at the higher reading, it will read 60 mph when vehicle is stopped, in park, and ignition off. I did find that to be interesting. Sluggish going to 0 mph when stopping at a stop sign etc. I have owned the thing for all of 4 days.
The vehicle has not been repaired. I feel it is dangerous driving with a speedometer which is not reliable. Approximately 6 weeks ago the speedometer started showing intermittent speeds not consistent with actual speed. The problem was there when I purchased the truck. This is a common, known problem with these gauge clusters and Chevrolet div.
We will take it in tomorrow to have the part replaced. I noticed that I was passing the few other vehicles on the road and because of the speed at which I was doing so I checked the speed reading on my gps and found that I was doing almost 100 mph. Gm has refused to fix the problem and told me I am fully responsible for all parts and labor costs because my vehicle is out of warranty.
